Thai ban on campaigning aborted

Bangkok, Thailand, 12 Dec. - The Thai political restriction has been lifted following the publication of the National Committee for Peace and Order (NCPO) on the Royal Government Gazette on Dec. 11.

The order No. 22/2561 subjected as "Allowing People and Political Parties to Run Political Activities" revoked many restrictions put in the previous orders including conditions of people who were released under the committee's prohibitions.

Leading political parties e.g. Democratic and Puethai called for resignations of four incumbent ministers - Industry Minister, Commerce Minister, Science and Technology Minister and Minister of Prime Minister's Office - after they had been given high positions in Palang Pracharath Party because the political ban has been lifted.

Many have expressed concerns over the advantage of junta government to renew it's power in the upcoming general election.

The ban was taken effect after the military had seized power in 2014 coup d'ta.
