Huge Crowds Mourn Woman Slayed in Protests
Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar (Feb. 21) - A large number of people have turned out in Myanmar's capital for the funeral of a young woman claimed in demonstrations against military coup.
Mya Thwe Thwe Khaing was shot while she was participating in the anti-coup protest.
Thousands lined up on the streets to honor her, some raising the three-fingered salutes.
The military expelled the elected government from its seat earlier this month with the accusation of election fraud which 8 million irregularities were found in the electoral process.
The military promise to hold election hasn't satisfied protest goers, calling for the unconditional release of State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and other political figures of National League for Democracy (NLD) Party.
Mya Thwe Thwe Khaing, a supermarket worker, was wounded when police tried to disperse crowds earlier this month. She was on life support for 10 days, but passed away on Friday.
