Millions Left without Power in Texas
Texas, US (Feb. 16) - A historic winter storm has killed at least 21 people, caused millions of people without power, triggered by a lack of energy supply, Tuesday.
The brutal cold has covered vast area of the US, shuttering COVID-19 inoculation centers and hampering vaccine supplies.
Officials in Texas drew criticism as the state energy grid repeatedly failed. In a news conference addressing the outages, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas or ERCOT elaborated the state's energy supply fell short by about 45,000 megawatts due to snowballing demand.
Over 3 million people were without power in the shale state of Texas as of Tuesday evening, as a major winter storm rolling from the Midwest to the Mid-Atlantic devastated the state.
ERCOT was able to restore 2,500 megawatts Monday, which was capable of serving just 500,000 families.
White House said President Joe Biden assured the governors of hard-hit sates that the federal government stands ready to provide any emergency resources needed. Some information is applied from UPI and Rueters.
