Suthep Files Defamation Lawsuit against Suthin
Bangkok, Thailand (Feb.18) - Suthep Tuagsubun has filed a criminal lawsuit against Sutin Klungsaeng on the offence of defamation related to Bangkok Elevated Road and Train System (BERTS).
Mr. Tuagsubun, the claimant, said the termination of the agreement of the BERTS had been a cabinet resolution before he was the Minister of Transportation. He added Mr. Klungsaeng, the defendant, alluded him as the outset of compensation, causing the government to allocate its annual expenditure in order to pay the company.
Speaking during censure debate, Mr. Klungsaeng also accused the premiere of helping the claimant to make the case precluded by prescription.
The claimant defended that he authorized the termination because of the cabinet resolution made by the previous administration.
In addition to the case, The Supreme Administrative Court ruled that the government had to compensate the company over 11 billion bath with 7.5% of interest annually.
Bangkok Elevated Road and Train System was approved by the Chatichai Choonhavan's administration on 9 November 1990, without a feasibility study. Additionally, rumors of corruption swirled around the project from the outset. Some information is applied from Thai Post and Thairath.
