India's Transportation Overwhelmed

New Delhi, India (Apr, 20) - Bus and train terminals in New Delhi have been overcrowded as thousands of migrant workers leaving the city and a week-long lockdown came to effect.

The government implement so called a week-long "curfew" which took effect Monday night. However the restrictions and orders are the same as last year's national lockdown.

The orders prohibit people from going outside unless they need to get necessary supplies. Essential services can still operate.

Migrant workers flooded the bus and train terminals to leave the city as the curfew was promulgated. Many are daily wage earners and cannot afford for the rent. Some decided to cross the state border to Uttar Pradesh on foot because they have no choice, even though the government asked the workers not to leave and assured them they'll be looked after.

"I'm leaving because the lock downs have been imposed. No body helps in lockdowns. we have to pay every one. We are far from home and we are here to work hard and earn for our family back home. In this situation, we end up in the opposite, so we have to go home." Krishna Soni - a migrant worker - told ANI's reporter.

India have experienced Covid19-spike for the sixth straight day with over 2 lakh confirmed cases. On Monday alone 1,757 people have died of the virus.
