Typhoon Surigae Slays 1 Life & Displaces Thousand
Manila, the Philippines (Apr. 20) - At least one person has been killed and over thousand have been displaced as Typhoon Surigae, packing gusty wind of 195 kilometers/hour, swept through the Philippines Monday.
The typhoon wasn't expected to make landfall in the disaster-prone archipelago, according to the government weather service.

A 79-year-old man was reportedly killed after an uprooted coconut tree had fallen on him in addition to this, another man was missing after he had failed to return from rough seas. More than 68,000 people living in the storm-hit areas were evacuated from their homes as a precaution. Many of them were staying in emergency shelters, raising concerns about the spread of the Covid-19.
The typhoon is now northwesterly swirling off the main island of Luzon in the Pacific Ocean and is expected to move away the archipelagoes.
The powerful Typhoon Surigae resulted in 2,792 individuals, 36 vessels, and 1,032 rolling cargoes stranded, while 55 vessels and 54 motor banca boats were taking shelter amid bad weather.
